How to install an external voltage regulator on an alternator

A voltage regulator is essential for any vehicle, as it keeps the voltage to a safe level to ensure that your electrical equipment is not damaged. The faster you are the rotations of the rotor of the alternator, the voltage will be higher. Once the alternator output voltage reaches the power your computer uses to function, the controller is disabled. Many use internal voltage regulators, but if the alternator does not have an integrated control device, you must install an external one.

Instructions

  1. Place the voltage regulator alternator as close as possible. Generally, it can be fixed in the holder in the upper or lateral part of the alternator. Remove the alternator mounting nut with a wrench, then place the bracket aligned with the alternator regulator. Place and tighten the nut.
  2. Locate the terminal where the wire alternator voltage regulator is connected. This is on the back of the alternator which has a plastic socket with “Reg” or “RV” label. The labeling may vary, but the only unused terminal on the alternator, so you will not go wrong.
  3. Connect wires to the terminal voltage regulator alternator. The voltage regulator is pre-wired and has a plastic cap on the end of their cables. Insert the plug on the alternator terminal until you feel a click. Gently pulling the connector so that you make sure it is properly connected.
